1st Annual Tennis Tournament Raises Dollars and Awareness For Project Peru

Natick, MA, September 20, 1999 – Project Perú, Inc., a non-profit aid organization focused on the welfare of Peruvian children is excited to announce the success of its first fundraising and awareness event.

On September 18, 1999, Project Peru held its 1st Annual Tennis Tournament in Wayland, MA that had 30 participants, raised $2,000 and brought tremendous awareness to our cause.

“It was just a great day with beautiful weather, some fun, competitive tennis and a new awareness for our cause,” said Stephen Drake, Project Peru’s co-founder and President. Through the generous donations from our participants and sponsors, we have jumpstarted our organization and look forward to starting a tradition with this tournament.”

Donations go directly to assisting the organization on improvement projects in Peru. Due to the success and interest in this year’s tournament, Project Peru looks forward to its tournament in 2000.

The organization, headquartered in Natick, Massachusetts with offices in Lima, Peru and Washington, DC, was co-founded by Stephen and Cecilia Drake. Cecilia is Peruvian, and much of her family and friends, including her parents still reside in Lima.

Project Peru’s initial project will focus on developing a park and soccer field in an outlying area in the Lima neighborhoods.

The organization also looks to focus on a number of other community improvement projects in the same area and in outlying regions in Peru and include a focus on schools, medical facilities and other community areas.
